Demarest joined to form a law partnership that had its beginnings at Rua XV de Novembro, in downtown São Paulo, on April 23, 1948. Three years later, in March 1951, the first associate attorney joined the firm, Mr. Naum Rotenberg.
Over the years, the firm expanded in areas of practice and number of professionals, and in 1967, it moved to larger offices at Rua Líbero Badaró, still in old downtown São Paulo. |
The year 1990 represented a milestone in the firm's history, because in that year it opened two important offices, one in Brasília, Brazil's capital, with the main purpose of representing Demarest e Almeida before higher courts and governmental agencies; and the other in New York City, that brought the firm nearer to our major clients. Demarest e Almeida was the first Brazilian law firm to have an own and permanent office in that city. ![]() Naum Rotenberg | In April 1995, the firm moved for the third time, then to Alameda Campinas, in the elegant Jardins district. In fact, in order to adapt to the requirements of the market, at that time, Demarest e Almeida was not only changing its address, but also its profile, due to the increasing complexity of the business and legal environments. In November 2000, the firm moved to Centro Cultural Tomie Ohtake, at Avenida Pedroso de Moraes, and since then it is known as the most modern law firm in the country. |
In the following year, the firm opened offices in the important cities of Campinas and Ribeirão Preto, to be present in São Paulo State's hinterland, the country's second largest consumer market..
In 2003 and 2004, Demarest e Almeida formalized three important partnerships. The first, with Lima e Falcão Advogados, a law firm based in Recife, with an extensive activity in other parts of the Northeast region; and the two others, with Carvalho & Furtado Advogados, based in the city of Belo Horizonte, and with Oliveira Freitas Advogados, in the city of Fortaleza. In 2004, Demarest e Almeida opened another office in downtown São Paulo to meet the increasing demand in the corporate litigation area.
