
Professional Development Program
The formation of talents is one of Demarest e Almeida's values. For this reason, our professional development program includes:
1. Orientation
All new students and attorneys joining Demarest e Almeida go through our Human Resources' and IT's orientation program, when they are introduced to Demarest e Almeida's culture and learn to use the many state-of-the art technological resources offered by the Firm.
2. Mentoring
In addition to our orientation program, each newcomer is introduced to his/her Mentor, a more experienced attorney at the Firm, who will thereafter be appointed to assist the newcomer in any professional development matters throughout his/her career at the Firm.
3. Technical Formation
The technical formation is one of the professional development pillars at Demarest e Almeida. For this reason, the Firm sponsors or subsidizes law courses, including postgraduate courses in Brazil and abroad so that its attorneys can be constantly updated.
Further to the external courses, our professionals have permanent development opportunities at the Firm through monthly lectures to students, periodical meetings of specific practice groups and department meetings in which actual cases are discussed, or through specialists' lectures, invited to lecture on issues such as leadership and client relationship.
4. Career Plan
Demarest e Almeida has a career plan for its attorneys, which is in permanent improvement. At the end of each six-month period, each attorney is evaluated by the partners of his/her department and receives individual feedback so that he/she may improve specific issues in his/her professional formation.
5. State-of-the-Art Resources
We believe the professional development of our attorneys stands out for the fast and effective access to information, and our systems are one of the pillars of our three core principles, namely "Talent, Work and Technology". For this reason, Demarest e Almeida invests in equipment and applications to enable our professionals to be productive both at the office and at home, providing great flexibility.
6. Lex Mundi
Demarest e Almeida is the Brazilian member of Lex Mundi, the largest global independent association of law firms. This association enables our professionals to have free access to excellent sources of foreign law information, such as publications, participation in specific practice groups and contact with attorneys at firm members worldwide, in addition to opportunities to take part in international seminars and exchange programs.
7. Other Activities
Further to the items above, as part of their professional development, our professionals are encouraged to:
• enhance their leadership skills by taking part in several committees related to the Firm's management;
• write legal articles to first-class publications;
• represent the Firm at professional entities and associations of which the Firm is a member;
• act in Pro Bono cases
• give lectures, classes and seminars; and
• take part in sports teams sponsored by the Firm (soccer, running, tennis, etc.) and in championships, where teamwork always comes first.
