Felipe has extensive experience in domestic and international litigation and arbitration, serving as counsel in complex, high profile cases unfolding before the major Brazilian Courts and administrative departments, as well as in arbitration proceedings under the auspices of the rules of the major arbitration institutions of Brazil and of the world. He has advised clients across a broad range of industries including infrastructure, real estate, banking, manufacturing and commodities and has been involved cases involving issues as diverse as corporate disputes, implementation of railways, construction and development of hydroelectric power plants, development and installation of wind farms, protection of foreign direct investment, land repossession, intellectual property, judicial reorganizations e bankruptcy proceedings, among others.

Highlights

  • 2017: Advised a large multinational company in a dispute concerning a public bidding for the provision of trains in the amount of BRL 326 million.
  • 2016/2017: Represented Seaworthy Investiment GmbH in the judicial reorganization proceedings filed by the companies of the Sete Brasil Group, which involve credits of over BRL 19 billion. The case had special relevance because the company challenged the possibility to process the judicial reorganization of foreign companies in Brazil as well as the possibility to present a unitary recovery plan involving both Brazilian and foreign companies.
  • 2016/2017: Advised one of the largest hotel owners and administrators of the world in a dispute concerning the construction of two hotels in the city of Rio de Janeiro, with overall value of BRL 56 million.
  • 2015/2017: Represented an investor in an arbitral proceeding involving the purchase and sale of equity in an agricultural company, with alleged value of BRL 21 million.
  • 2015/2017: Represented a large German logistics group in two arbitrations involving corporate disputes with overall amount of BRL 108 million.
  • 2016: Advised one of the largest manufacturers of wind power generators of the world in a dispute with one of the largest wind power producers in Brazil concerning several contracts with an overall value of BRL 3,26 billion.
  • 2015/2016: Represented Sol Agrícola S/A in a judicial proceedings aiming at the repossession of a large farm that was invaded by over 700 armed members of the Landless Workers' Movement. Despite the large number of invaders, the company regained possession of its property in only 15 days.
  • 2013/2015: Represented a large Brazilian logistics company in judicial and arbitration proceedings involving investments of over BRL 1,2 billion in the railway sector.
  • 2015: Advised a major concessionaire of the electrical sector in a dispute involving the installation of one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in Brazil.
  • 2015: Advised the Consortium responsible for the construction of one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in Brazil in large insurance disputes concerning accidents happened in the facilities of the plant.
  • 2010/2015: Represented EDF International S/A in an unprecedented case of recognition of a foreign arbitration award set aside by the Courts of the seat of the arbitration. By means of the proceedings, the sought to enforce credits of USD 130 million.
  • 2010/2015: Represented an agricultural company in an arbitration involving the purchase of a property of almost 30.000 hectares and value of approximately BRL 30 million.
  • 2010/2011: Represented one of the largest construction companies in Brazil in a dispute concerning the expropriation of foreign direct investment by the government of a South American country. The case involved law firms from three different jurisdictions.
