On March 31, Demarest Advogados and "Sou do Esporte" held the event "Benefits from the Use of Incentive Laws in Sports Sponsorship".
The meeting had the participation of several Brazilian sports personalities and Demarest's Contract and Tax partners.
The speakers were:
Fabiana Bentes, the creator of the "Sou do Esporte" ("I'm for the Sports") platform, journalist and editor-in-chief of the "Esporte Essencial" (Essential Sports) Portal exclusively dedicated to the Brazilian sports and gathering the richest contents of Brazil's Olympic and Paralympic history. She is also director and consultant of sports projects of the Inter-American Development Bank.
André Heller, Gold Medal winner in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and Silver Medal winner in Pequim 2008. André has been a Motivational Speaker since 2010. He is currently the Technical Coordinator of the Brasil Kirin Volley team, Brazil Bank's Sports Ambassador (since 2014) and Sou do Esporte sponsor.
Claudio de Oliveira Mattos, a Contract partner, he has an LL.B. with a specialization in Corporate Finance from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Franklin Pierce Law Center, US. His practice is especially concentrated on consulting, drafting and negotiation of contracts and opinions in the civil and commercial areas, among which supply, civil construction (including involving the constructions of arenas for the World Cup and the Olympic Games and plants such as Hyundai's, Sogefi's, Miller Brewing Company's and Henkel's), distribution, logistics and warehousing, transportation, toll manufacturing and other services agreements, has worked in projects involving Votorantim, DHL, TNT, Mattel do Brasil, C&A, Visteon Sistemas Automotivos, Move São Paulo (linha 6 do metro), Pfizer, Unilever, Monsanto, NIKE, Embraer, Bombardier, Brasil Kirin, Diageo, Bacardi Martini, Harley-Davidson, Goodyear, and many others.
Carlos Eduardo Orsolon, a Tax partner specializing in Direct Taxes and Federal Administrative Tax Litigation. He is a specialist in Administrative Tax Proceedings judged by the Administrative Board of Tax Appeals (CARF), in Brasilia, Federal District, and is particularly recognized for his great care with the details of the case under discussion, what constantly results in decisions favorable to his clients. Carlos has an extensive experience in tax consulting and is a specialist in matters related to tax planning involving international operations of mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate and tax restructuring as well as debt recovery proceedings handled by federal tax authorities.
Andrew Parsons, graduated in Journalism from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), Andrew has been a member of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) since 1997. He started as a press officer, and then became the Committee's President in 2009. In 2013, he was also elected Vice President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Under his management, Brazil's team team achieved the best results in the Brazilian Paralympic Games history: the seventh place in the medals table, with 21 Gold Medals in London 2012. He was elected the Best Sports Manager in 2015 by Sou do Esporte.
Sami Arap Sobrinho, lawyer graduated from Pontificia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP) in 1987, he has always shared his practice with a sports passion: the rugby. After a career as a rugby player, in 2010, he was appointed President of the Brazilian Rugby Confederation. Arap has been working for the growth of the rugby in Brazil and seeking to strengthen the technical level of this sport in order to attract new players. The Brazilian Rugby Confederation was chosen as the confederation with the best sports governance practices in Brazil in 2015 by Sou do Esporte.
Lars Grael, a yachting Gold Medal winner, Lars Grael is considered one of the professionals with the highest credibility in the sports area. A natural leader in all the classes and clubs in which he sailed, he is a former member of the Founding Council of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and held public positions as National Secretary of Sports during President Fernando Henrique Cardoso's government. He is currently the Technical Director of the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC), President of the National Commission of Athletes and motivational speaker. He was honored by Sou do Esporte as an athlete who spread sports values during his path in Sou do Esporte in 2015.
The event discussed the evolution of the incentive to the Paralympic sports in Brazil, sports incentive laws and related tax and contractual aspects, the good governance and professional management in the Brazilian sports, and the incentive to sports.
