Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office - BPTO - implements a new type of priority patent examination in the scope of the Consolidation Project of Cooperation between South American Industrial Property Offices (Prosul)
On July 01, 2017, another pilot project of Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) was started. This project was developed by the BPTO in cooperation with South American countries under Prosul, of which the BPTO is a member. Apart from Brazil, the following countries are part of Prosul: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Costa Rica and Uruguay. Through PPH, those Brazilians who have received the patent examination result for an application filed with the BPTO will be able to request an acceleration in the analysis of patent applications in countries which are part of the project in question, and vice versa. This project will run until June 30, 2018 and includes patent applications involving any technical field or date of filing. The purpose of the project is to intensify cooperation between industrial property offices around the world. It is the third PPH to be launched by the BPTO, following the agreements signed with Japan and the United States. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
