New accessibility rules take effect
Law No. 13,146/2015 in force since 01.04.2016, instituted the Brazilian Law of Inclusion of People with Disabilities or Status of Persons with Disabilities.
This law seeks to ensure and promote the exercise of rights and fundamental freedoms by persons with disabilities. As a result, services, products and buildings should conform to the new rules of accessibility.
Among the provisions are included the requirement of adequacy of buildings, electronic addresses (websites) and product information and services to the needs of people with disabilities.
For example, suppliers of products and services shall, upon request, provide leaflets, brochures, labeling or any type of promotional material in accessible format.
The Person with Disabilities Statute changes, too, Consumer Protection Code devices. One of the most important changes is the obligation of information on quantity, characteristics, composition, quality, price and taxes, as well as risks relating to products and services be in an accessible format.
The rule is already in force. However, its full implementation still depends on regulation.
Moreover, proof of compliance with the accessibility rules provided on the Statute of the Person with Disabilities and associated with the Federal Law nº 10,089/2000 will be required from the interested parties for participation in projects with the government.
