Eloy Rizzo arrives to further strengthen the firm’s solid team

Demarest Advogados, one of the most prestigious law firms in Brazil and Latin America, announces the arrival of Eloy Rizzo to its corporate structure. Together with partner Carlo Verona, Rizzo will be in charge of the firm’s Compliance practice, consolidating an important sector that is becoming increasingly relevant to Brazilian society.

A graduate of Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), postgraduate studies in Brazilian Civil Procedural Law from the same university and a Master of Laws from King’s College in London, Rizzo has extensive experience in Compliance, Investigations, White Collar Crime and complex Litigation. In 2015, he spent nine months in Washington D.C. as a foreign associate at the firm Miller & Chevalier Chartered, working on an independent internal investigation related to Lava Jato, with implications in Brazil and the USA.

In 2016, Rizzo completed the Global Corporate Compliance workshop, conducted by Fordham University in New York. He was recently named by Chambers Global and Chambers Latin America as one of the most respected compliance lawyers in Brazil, being described by the publication as a “rising star”. Most recently, in December 2019, he was named one of the top five lawyers in the area in Brazil by Compliance on Top, in a poll conducted with 422 Compliance Officers and General Counsel of multinational companies. In 2019, Rizzo was also recognized by the publication Análise Editorial as Brazil’s most admired Compliance lawyer in full service firms. The new partner was Chair of the Compliance & Investigations practice at Koury Lopes Advogados until joining Demarest.

“Eloy Rizzo is one of the most renowned Brazilian lawyers in this area, and his arrival is in line with our strategy of having the best Compliance practice among Brazilian law firms,” says Paulo Coelho da Rocha, managing partner.

“I intend to actively contribute to this area that has been a hotbed since the launch of the Lava Jato operation at the end of 2014, bringing with it much growth potential for the practice of compliance in the coming years,” says Rizzo. “I join a multidisciplinary team of stars who will be indispensable in representing our clients in highly complex government investigations involving multiple authorities in Brazil, the US and other jurisdictions.”
