The Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies votes to extend the entry into force of the LGPD to December 31, 2020

Provisional Measure 959/2020 (MP 959/2020), issued by President Jair Bolsonaro on April 29, 2020, was approved with modification by the by the Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies in an extraordinary deliberative session on August 25, 2020.  Now MP 959/2020 will go to the Federal Senate for voting.

Among other provisions, MP 959/2020 modified the date of enforcement of the General Personal Data Protection Law No. 13,709/2018 (“LGPD”) to December 31, 2020.  After the voting in the Senate, if approved, MP 959/2020, which was modified from the original text, will be taken to presidential sanction.

It is important to note that the beginning of the term for the application of administrative sanctions provided for in the LGPD will occur only on August 1, 2021, as per Law No. 14,010/2020.
