Partner in Demarest’s Public and Regulatory Law and Infrastructure and Project Finance practice areas, Renan Sona holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from USP and a specialization in Administrative Law from FGV. He concentrates his practice in legal structuring of concession projects and PPPs (public-private partnerships), as well as privatization procedures or investments related to different infrastructure segments – such as airports, ports, highways, urban mobility, railways, basic sanitation and solid waste, public lighting and social infrastructure. Renan has experience guiding clients and providing general advice on bidding procedures and in the execution of procurement contracts with the government; He also has experience in defending the interests of companies before regulatory agencies and other control bodies, including in the scope of judicial litigation. Renan has extensive experience in advising concessionaires throughout the execution process of contracts, including the renegotiation of contracts and the review of commercial aspects, as well as the sale and purchase of infrastructure assets.

  • Advised Consórcio Smart Luz on the bidding process for the PPP of the public lighting service of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, including complementary Smart City services. Consórcio Smart Luz submitted the winning bid and executed a BRL 1.4 billion investment contract. Subsequent to the bidding, continues to advise Smart RJ Concessionária de Iluminação Pública throughout the execution of the PPP contract, including in obtaining long-term financing.
  • Advised Consórcio Nova Norte, comprising DIX Empreendimentos and Socicam Serviços Urbanos, in the Auction No. 01/2022, carried out by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) with the purpose of holding the concession for the expansion, maintenance and operation of the airports integrating the blocks: (i) General Aviation Block; (ii) North Block II; and (iii) SP/MS/PA/MG Block. The Client won the North Block II.
  • Advised Virgin Orbit on the public call procedure carried out by the Brazilian Space Agency and also in obtaining an operator’s license that allows LauncherOne to carry out launch operations in Brazil. The license was granted to Virgin Orbit Brasil (VOBRA), a subsidiary established to bring the air launching system to the Alcântara Launch Center (Centro de Lançamento de Alcântara – CLA).
  • Advised Eletromidia on Bid No. 001/2022- CPLCC, held by the Municipality of Recife with the purpose of carrying out the concession of public services involving clocks and monitoring cameras, with exclusivity over advertising related to this equipment for a period of 20 years.
