Partner in Demarest’s Mergers and Acquisitions and Mining practice areas, Thiago Rodrigues Maia holds a master’s degree from the Northwestern University School of Law (USA). He concentrates his practice in equity acquisitions and divestitures, private equity transactions, and commercial joint ventures. Among his main clients are major corporations, private equity funds, and companies in the mining sector. A member of the New York State Bar Association, Thiago is also recognized by leading legal rankings in Brazil and internationally.
- Advised Vale S.A. on the acquisition of CEMIG’s stake in Aliança Geração de Energia S.A. for BRL 2.7 billion and, subsequently, on the sale of Aliança’s control to GIP for USD 1 billion.
- Advised Aura Minerals on the acquisition of MSG, owned by AngloGold, for USD 76 million.
- Advised Vale on acquiring a stake in Minas-Rio, forming a joint venture with Anglo American, involving asset contributions and a USD 157 million investment.
- Advised COPEL on the sale of several energy generation assets for BRL 450 million.
- Advised the controlling shareholders of ALESAT on the sale of the company’s control to Glencore for BRL 1.7 billion.
