Demarest announces new partner in Capital Markets practice area
October 1st, 2025
With a strong background in capital markets structuring, Carlos Henrique de Araújo arrives to further strengthen the firm’s São Paulo office team.
São Paulo, October 01, 2025 – As part of its ongoing expansion strategy and commitment to strengthening key practice areas, Demarest Advogados – one of Latin America’s leading full-service law firms – is pleased to announce the arrival of Carlos Henrique de Araújo as a new partner in its Capital Markets practice area.
Carlos holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Pennsylvania (USA) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. With 17 years of experience in the legal sector, he began his career as an intern at the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (“CVM”), where he developed a strong foundation in regulatory and capital markets matters.
Carlos has built a solid career at leading law firms in the market and also served as a foreign associate at the New York office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. In recent years, he led the legal department of a prominent asset management firm, where he was responsible for structuring complex transactions and developing investment strategies across funds focused on sectors such as real estate, agribusiness, and infrastructure, among others.
Carlos’s professional background includes advising on public securities offerings, receivables securitization, investment funds, and financial restructurings. He has extensive experience supporting both domestic and international companies across a range of industries, as well as banks and financial institutions, in fundraising transactions, project development, and the management of complex operations.
“In the current high-interest rate environment, there is a clear opportunity for growth in the demand for structured solutions, particularly among middle-market companies seeking alternatives to traditional bank credit,” says Carlos Henrique. “This segment requires specialized technical advisory to access the capital markets efficiently, which opens space for new business and expands the reach of financial transactions in Brazil to a significant portion of local companies,” he adds.
Demarest’s hiring represents a strategic move to expand its presence in sophisticated and tailor-made transactions, highlights Cristina Tomiyama, partner in the Capital Markets and Publicly Traded Companies practice areas. “Carlos’s arrival strengthens our ability to meet increasingly complex demands, particularly in structured, credit, and quasi-equity transactions – financial instruments that blend characteristics of both debt and equity,” says Cristina. “His experience enhances our multidisciplinary approach and reinforces the value we deliver to our clients.”
For José Diaz, Demarest’s Managing Partner, Carlos’s integration into the team reinforces the firm’s positioning as a reference in the sector. “Carlos brings a solid career and strategic vision – particularly in the real estate and agribusiness segments – in line with the current transformation and momentum of the capital markets,” says José. “His arrival not only strengthens our Capital Markets practice, but also strengthens interdepartmental alignment and strategic collaboration, enhancing our ability to deliver comprehensive, high-value solutions to our clients.”
